Are Our Girls Taking One Step Forward and Two Steps Back?
As our kids would say in Texteese OMG! Take a look at
The Princess Trend In Girls Video . I am concerned that our girls are playing “Princess” more now than ever before. My worry is that, although we may all wish to be Princesses, that is not real life.
The psychologist in this video states that she thinks all girls should be viewed as Princesses in their homes, thus building self-esteem. WOW! Is that the way to build self-esteem…by dressing up in pink and frills and crowns? What will this type of encouragement lead to in real life?
Will the traditional girly dream of growing up to marry the rich Prince and live happily ever after prevail and result in women who are unskilled and incapable of taking care of themselves (and possibly their children)? The mom in this video has the right idea when she states that she hopes her daughter can dress in pink and still grow to be the Prime Minister! I hope she will encourage that type of play.
Take a look and see what you think. Not that it isn’t fun to play dress up, but as parents, make sure your girls engage in play that fosters thoughts of value based on their smarts and their ability to do for themselves.
One more thing, when you check out this site…scroll down and look at the Zwinky ad on the bottom left! Now there is a real life girl, huh? One step forward…two (or three) steps back!
